The ENT Coding Professional: A Comprehensive Training Program

ENT coding can look straightforward until you get into the operative details. Two sinus cases may have similar procedure titles while the work documented at each sinus is quite different. Ear surgery, laryngoscopy and head and neck procedures bring their own terminology and coding questions. This course is built for experienced coders who want to understand those differences. We will review ear and mastoid surgery, nasal and sinus procedures, airway work, sleep surgery, thyroid and salivary procedures, and reconstruction. The focus is on what the physician actually documented, how that work relates to CPT, and when a clarification is truly needed.

Webinar Objectives

  • Recognize the ear, nose, throat, and neck anatomy described in ENT operative reports.
  • Understand common ENT techniques, including the differences between diagnostic and surgical endoscopy.
  • Follow anatomical sites, laterality, and the extent of work documented during sinus and ear procedures.
  • Recognize documented clinical indicators without making a clinical determination.
  • Find the passages in operative reports that support a proposed CPT code.
  • Distinguish separately reportable work from services already included in another code.
  • Use current CPT instructions, coding guidance and applicable edits to check code selection.
  • Recognize missing, unclear or conflicting details that could affect coding accuracy.
  • Know when a physician clarification is needed and when the existing record is sufficient.
  • Explain coding decisions clearly to providers and clinical staff using the documented work.
